Kyoto Textiles

Kyoto meets NYC

October, 2025

For over 1,200 years, Kyoto has remained the cultural and artistic heart of Japan.

From this rich heritage, three unparalleled silk traditions were born and perfected:

Tango, the origin of Japanese silk weaving;

Nishijin, a dazzling culmination of technical mastery;

and Kyo-Yuzen, which paints fabric with the grace of a canvas.

This exhibition introduces a historic collaboration that unites these three traditions—Tango, Nishijin, and Kyo-Yuzen—bringing their centuries of artistry and pride to New York City. Together, they weave a dialogue between heritage and innovation. Through this union, we bridge the wisdom of tradition with the promise of the future, illuminating the timeless beauty and creative spirit that continues to define Japan.
